Chesser Family Calling
People always told me that I was called to the ministry, but I never gave it a thought. I always just brushed it aside saying to myself that those people just wanted me to be like my dad. I just wanted to be my own person, with my own goals. However, all of that changed after my dad passed away. The year after my dad passed, I almost lost everything. I had messed up my life and my marriage so bad that I didn’t think it could be fixed. During that year, my 3 year old daughter would make me read the story of Jonah and the whale to her every night. I realized that God was using that 3 year old little girl to minister to me. One day it all came to be, I finally surrendered to God’s calling on my life. I did not know what it would look like at the time; All I knew is that I could not go through this life without Him and His mission for my life.
After surrendering to the ministry, I prayed that God would open doors for us and He did. Our Church asked my wife and I to start a new Sunday School Class working with 18-30 year old single and career people. That is what we are doing today. However, we always felt like we were being called to do so much more to further His Kingdom, but never really knew what that was. All we knew to do was to be patient and PRAY. So that is what we did and through that, OUR MISSION was made very clear to us. We were created in HIS image to GO AND MAKE DISCIPLES!! We were created to live out Matthew 28 “TO GO, TEACH, MAKE DISCIPLES, and BAPTIZE all in the NAME OF JESUS CHRIST!!! But aren’t we all called to that as Christ Followers? YES!! The Great Commission is NOT just for the 12 Disciples, it’s for ALL who proclaim Jesus Christ as LORD AND SAVIOR!! So for me and my family (Emily, Annleigh Grace, and Julia Mills) our mission is to go and plant a new church somewhere in the Great Country we call America!!
There are 3 potential plant cities: Denver, CO., Phoenix, AZ., Columbus, OH. If you look for a reason to plant churches in these cities, all you have to do is read Ezekiel 37. Ezekiel 37 talks about cities being full of dry bones; Cities that were once full of life are not anymore. They are dry and lay dormant. And all we have to do is GO and spread God’s word and He will breathe life back into those great cities again.
I get questions all the time about what the “MISSION” we’re on will look like. My answer is this simple, read Isaiah 6. There we see Isaiah’s Commission – God forgives him for his sins. After Isaiah repents, he simply said “Here am I, oh Lord, send me” and he goes to proclaim the Great Word of the Lord. That is all I know. I don’t know what I will be doing, where I will be doing it, or how I will be doing it. All I know is that I serve a FAITHFUL God and He will provide.
Your mission may not look anything like ours, but that’s what’s GREAT about it! Your mission could be: becoming a prayer warrior for our team, giving a weekend to just come and serve, being an encouragement to us, or to help support the church plant financially. Just know this: As a Christ Follower, YOU HAVE A MISSION!
